British Texts Translated into Italian 1500-1700
Edited by Emanuel Stelzer (University of Verona)
This website aims at listing all the texts by British authors which were translated, whether in manuscript or in print, into Italian, from the beginning of the sixteenth century to the year 1700. It includes translations of texts written by British authors in English or Latin directly into Italian or into Italian via French. Where possible, a link to digital reproductions has been inserted. The influence and translations of Italian texts in early modern Britain have long been the object of study, but the opposite direction has only occasionally garnered critical attention. This catalogue wishes to provide the scholarly community with new insights into the circulation and reception of texts in early modern Europe and the cultural dynamics of translation.
